Read our current capacity statementAbout us
Thornfield Forestry Consultants traces its origins to 1941, when the firm's founder served on a Forestry Commission survey of the Caledonian pine remnants under the wartime Home Timber Production Department. The practice was formalised in Inverness shortly after the war and has operated continuously since. Today it advises private estates, conservation trusts, and local authorities across the Scottish Highlands, the Welsh borders, and the West Country.
We believe good forestry starts with honest assessment. Our recommendations are always site-specific, grounded in current ecological science, and free of vested interest in any downstream timber sale or processing arrangement.
Our servicesWhat we do
Long-term management plans for private native woodlands, including silvicultural prescriptions, regeneration strategies, and Felling Licence compliance.
Flora and fauna surveys, significant tree reports, and biodiversity assessments for planning and development applications.
Standing timber valuation, carbon stock estimation, and eligibility assessments for woodland carbon credit schemes.
Revegetation design and contractor supervision for cleared, degraded, or post-harvest land, using locally provenant seed stock.
